1st Annual Wildlife Photography Contest

Lake 'N Pines Lodge is pleased to announce our 1st annual wildlife photography contest. Nestled in the midst of the Pere Marquette state forest and on Lake Dubonnet nature is all around the lodge. So we are challenging our guest to capture the best wildlife photo of the area. Any guest staying at the lodge is eligible to sumbit an entry. The photo must be taken during their stay and submitted upon departure. Photo's will be accepted from April 10-July 25, 2011. All photo's submitted will become the property of Lake "n Pines Lodge. Our facebook fans will select the winners by popular vote. Votes will be taken from July 25th-July 30th with the winners notified by August 1st,2011. The 3 photo's receiving the most votes will recieve a Custom Framed & Matted 3-D Shadow box of their winning photograph. The photo with the top votes will also get a $100 Visa/Mastercard Gift Card.

Ready for spring

Winter is winding down, and I'll be sorry to see it end. Everyone had a great time cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and snow shoeing, despite the fact we a couple of wierd warm spells which melted the snow briefly.

For the spring we have introduced our new "Take Flight" package for bird watchers. With Lake Dubonnet being such a large secluded lake and surrounded by state forest it is an excellent spot for bird watching. Especially during the spring migration. Guest enjoying the herron's, loon's, Osprey, Swans and Bald Eagles.

holiday feeling..

We have all the suites decorated for the holidays, xmas trees, lights, 6ft Santas and other decorations. With the 3" of snow we have on the ground it's the perfect holiday feeling. Has inspired folks to start making their reservations for cross country skiing.

Windy Weather

Windy weather here to day. Folks have been going to lake Michigan to watch the big waves crash onto the shore. Enjoyed catering a private dinner for a couple in the Bay Chalet. After a long day of travel they just wanted to settle in and not have to go out for dinner. We are thinking of adding a personal Chef package to our offerings.

Beavers at work

This morning one of the guest went for an early walk. Notice a teee near our little beach area had been "chomped down" last night by a beaver. Fall colors are starting to come and it is beautiful :)

Purchased new Canoe

Today we purchased a new 3 person canoe for the lodge. This will be great for couples to explore lake Dubonnet, or to go out fishing in. It is nice that is has drink holders, built-in cooler, and a dry storage place. It is a nice addition to the row boats and kyaks we already have for our guest to use.

Two Bald Eagles sighted

While out fishing today, I saw two bald eagles circling above. I had seen one previously and located it's nest.

Big Turtle sighting on Lake Dubonnet

One of our guest this week reported a large turtle with a nearly 2ft diameter shell swam under his kyak. When he first saw the head of the turtle he thought it was a log floating near by, and when he got closer it dived under the surface. The water is so clear in Lake Dubonnet that he saw the turtle quite clearly. He was very excited to tell us about his experience.

Wonderful Sunny Weekend in the Up North

Sun is shining - winds are blowing and its a comfortable 72 degrees! Our guests have gone out for the past 3 nights to sit on the lake and enjoy the sunsets. Saw the northern lights during one of their trips out! As well, they did some evening fishing and caught some great Bass and Blue Gill... said it made a perfect ending to the days!

Film Festival is Coming!!!

Well the share festival is over and now the plans are underway for the Film Festival. This will have even more films than last year! Its always a great time to see the huge variety of films offered. Time to order your tickets and be part of this special event!

Cherry Festival Great Success

Saved Turtle Last Night

Cast the line out last night from the dock using a small Blue Gill as bait in hope of catching another northern pike. Saw the bobber moving around and when I tried to reel in the line it broke. Then I saw the head of a turtle, and knew the turtle was tangled up in the line. I used the Kayak to go out and scoop up the turtle with a net. I got him untangled and he merrily crawled back into the lake. Since he seemed quite irriated by the event I understood why he did not bother to thank me!!

Cherry Festival is Coming to town!

Sunday kicks off the 84th Cherry Festival - there is cherry everything in town! David and I attending the Blue Angels Airshow on Sunday. Its a 4 hour cruise on the Nauti-cat - should be great fun and a great start to the week :)

Office Facelift

David has spent the day painting my office and the lower level of the lodge - a bright color -
named "social butterfly" - its a lemon-orange color that adds a lot of life to the area. The crew is suppose to start working on the other renovations on Monday. Will be exciting to see if all come together.

Even in the midst of renovations we were able to take guests for the holidays - had a great couple for Illinois and a fun loving group from Michigan. Evening went great and everyone had a good time. The group has made reservations for 2 future return trips to try their luck at fishing. We look forward to having them stay with us again.
